About the Series
Until recently, the ruthless nocturnal world of the African plains has played out in the shadows. But a revolutionary thermal camera is lifting the veil on the secrets of the enigmatic night predators of Zambia's Luangwa Valley.
In a darkened gully lies Kamuti, an aging female leopard coming to terms with the waning of her formidable reflexes. Hungry, she waits for sunset to deploy her excellent night vision. But she must be wary, for a younger, more agile leopard is homing in on her prized hunting grounds.
Watching with an air of regality is the local 14-member Nsefu lion pride, comprised of two adult males, a handful of powerful females, and a new brood of cubs. But even this mighty group doesn’t have it easy: Hunting for prey is a constant, pressing demand, as is protecting the cubs from other predators and the pride itself.
Further along in the Liuwa plains, a harsh drought is testing the leadership of a wily hyena matriarch. Her role is to keep her cubs alive and find food for the clan. Soon she'll have a difficult decision to make: Wait for the rains to return, or form a hunting party and lead a risky journey north in search of wildebeest.
These are ancient stories of survival, only half-told until now. Take this chance to experience night in the African plains like never before.
